What Is a GP Registrar?
A GP Registrar is a fully qualified doctor who is undertaking specialist training to become a General Practitioner. Before starting this training, they have already completed several years working as a hospital doctor and are registered with the General Medical Council.
GP Registrars see patients independently, assess symptoms, make diagnoses, prescribe medication, and refer to other services where appropriate. Their work is closely supervised and supported by our experienced GP partners, ensuring high standards of safe and effective care at all times.
Having GP Registrars at Martlesham Heath Surgery helps us to:
-
Support the training of future GPs
-
Maintain appointment availability for patients
-
Uphold the traditional model of general practice through teaching and mentoring
We appreciate patients’ support in helping to train the next generation of family doctors.
